Watermelon Kale Lemonade Recipe

Watermelon, Kale, Celery, Lemon and Water; this simple combination is an ideal breakfast drink, before you consume anything else, this way these nutrients can easily be processed in your body and used quickly for energy. I’ve been giving watermelon much deserved attention lately, not as much as kale which is weird because it’s probably my favorite leafy green.

Kale is currently in season and is easily found locally at Farmer’s Markets for an awesome deal. The green curly kale I picked up was massive; all I needed was two leaves for this blended concoction. Those two leaves chopped up measured up to what I typically see with 3-4 kale leaves. I was one wicked happy juice lady <3

This recipe uses some of my favorite ingredients to make a drink that will help you feel full on a small budget or even a dazzling drink to entertain company on those hot summer weekends.

There are multiple options in flavor, texture, presentation, chill, and just how green you want this to taste! I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I do. I even made this one in a blender in attempt to make this more accessible for people.

Please strain this juice if blending, the fiber from the watermelon and kale together is not easily consumable for most of us. It also seriously masks the taste of lemonade. If you are a newbie to green juices, or juicing rind feel free to add more watermelon and or lemon.

Watermelon Kale Lemonade Recipe

3 cups watermelon (about three cups watermelon, half a cup of the rind), wash the watermelon first so you can use the rind.

Watermelon rind tastes like a mix of greens and water, if you are trying to please a group of large people omitting the rind and adding more water if necessary is an acceptable option. If you are not using an organic watermelon, I personally wouldn’t recommend using this part, it’s exposed heavily to pesticides. Watermelon rind? Watermelon rind is the green hard shell of a watermelon, including the inner white part. So pretty much all of the watermelon we would typically stay away from haha :D

2 pieces of kale, destemmed if using a blender & chopped. (I used curly kale since it usually juices a lighter shade of green. If you have a weaker blender cut off the stems. If you have a Vitamix or etc stems can stay)

1 large outer piece of celery, chopped. (The outer pieces have more of a salty taste and connects the watermelon and kale well)

Juice of one lemon or more according to your taste buds :D

1 cup water (if blending) or more depending on your blender

Options:

* Add 1/2 a cup to 1 cup of ice after blending the juice and straining. Pulse the mixture until you are satisfied with the texture.

*Add a few pieces of nicely sliced lemon (I like mine slightly on the thinner side). This way guests have control over how lemony they want their lemonade plus people love drinks with things floating around that they can play with AND EAT.

*Add a few pieces of mint (I love adding lemon mint to drinks like this)

*Add a teaspoon or more of lemon zest if you like an extra kick to your lemonade ;)

*Add a squeeze of lime juice if it tastes like something is “missing” or add more celery

*Cut cubes of watermelon and add them to the pitcher, or even better freeze those cubes for just 20 minutes to 30 minutes to make watermelon ice cubes

<3 Have fun with this, get creative and inspire others <3

This recipe makes one serving, so make as much as you would like!

Hope you all have a happy, healthy and delicious day. Thank you all so much for stopping by and taking the time to read my blog. Please let me know how this recipe goes for you!
